amandarae — who me?

Wow, a blog. I always thought these were pretty cool, but I never thought I had the self-discipline to start one myself.

Lately I’ve been playing with the idea of finally starting a blog to get all my thoughts from my scrambling head down in one location. I love writing, don’t get me wrong, but I focus too much on my handwriting or my hand cramping to make writing in a notebook a norm. So a friend of mine (Hi Sean!) and I decided to finally dust off the “start a blog” point from our bucket list and hold each other accountable… so here I am.

If you already know me, then thanks for reading! If you don’t, let me give you a little “Amanda-like” introductory to who I am:

I grew up in Ohio and went to the University of South Florida for my undergrad. I was a charter member for the Eta Eta Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. I worked in the Honors College. I graduated with a dual degree in Communication and Communication Sciences & Disorders after changing my major 4-ish times. I love the bulls.

I am now a second year masters student (is it masters or Masters or Master’s? I still can’t figure this one out..) at the University of Florida for Student Personnel in Higher Education. I have the best assistantship ever with the Reitz Union Board (RUB) Entertainment: a student-programming board that provides free events to the UF student body.

This summer I am on a NACA Internship at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with the Dean of Students Office where I am working with Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership Programs. That is all basically a fancy way of saying that I get to see the beautiful Tennessee mountains and cry every day about how much I just adore Greek Life. It’s really a win-win situation.

Fun? I’ve picked up running and reading– two things I NEVER would have done before. I am your usual 20-something year old woman who loves wine, netflix, and puppies. I have an underutilized talent for Disney karaoke and a secret passion for photography.

I will leave all the other details and information to include in future posts. I am really good at being redundant, so I will try my best to break that habit.

I am a college graduate. I am a student affairs grad. I am a future student affairs professional. I am a 20-something year old woman. If you have a question that fits (or does not fit), please let me know. I much prefer the “suggest a topic and I’ll write about it” pattern, but I realize that I need to get this blog off the ground and perhaps feel comfortable posting it to the world before I get to that point.

In the mean time, I will keep my topics in the titles and my thoughts in my posts. Feel free to follow me or @ me on Twitter. @amanda_koslow

This isn’t my professional resume. This isn’t my “best” writing. This is my mixing my creativity with my thoughts and producing a blog. Just like anything in life, I am scared but excited to see where this goes.

XOXO, amandarae

quote of the day: “I think we benefit from expressing our truths, talking about personal situations, and acknowledging that professional decisions are often emotionally driven.” (sheryl sandberg, lean in, pg 89… I will talk about this book a lot in the future I promise)
